GIGABYTE M32U Gaming Monitor – Reaching New Limits in 4K UHD – Opinion

Today we have under review the new gamer monitor GIGABYTE M32U, the first 32” UHD product under the GIGABYTE brand. The M32U comes with a refresh rate of 144 hertz and is also compatible with new next-gen consoles such as the Sony Playstation 5 and Microsoft XBOX Series.

Also, as is typical of monitors GIGABYTE, this includes the KVM option.

GIGABYTE M32U Monitor – Specifications

The GIGABYTE M32U monitor uses a 32” SuperSpeed IPS panel and a refresh rate of 144 hertz. According to the manufacturer, it has a response time of 1ms MRT extension (Motion Picture Response Team). It also has support for 10 bits and 90% coverage of the color space. DCI-P3.

Unlike its sister screen, the FI32U, M32U It comes with fewer options. One of them is that it does not have ARGB lighting (something that does not bother me in particular). Another is a smaller range of manipulation such as not being able to rotate the monitor 90 degrees.

Something that differs m32u, they are the two 3W speakers, something that I personally like, since it does not require an additional audio system (except for a specialized headset).

Among the benefits of the monitor, it is one of the few to bring support HDMI 2.1 (two ports) allowing 120 hertz gaming on consoles like Sony Playstation 5 y Microsoft XBOX Series. It also features variable refresh rate technology, AMD freesync Premium and despite the fact that so far it is not directly certified by NVIDIA, also supports NVIDIA G-Sync.

the gaming monitor GIGABYTE M32U also has a port DisplayPort 1.4, USB type C y three USB 3.0 ports.

Being a monitor based on the platform AORUS, also comes with these options:

-OSD Sidekick
-Aim Stabilizer Sync
-Black Equalizer
-Dashboard
-Crosshair
- Timer
-counter
-PiP/PbP
-Self-Update
-KVM
-6 axis Color Control
-Smart OD

Finally, it is compatible with VESA mounts.

Software – Let's not talk about it

Some may criticize, but since this is an opinion and user experience article, we believe that the software that comes with the monitor is unnecessary. A user can get same results by using the physical button.

The only exception to this rule is in the case of using some kind of shortcut that is beneficial.

For most users (gamers) it is adding an extra layer of software running in the background, something we should avoid.

OSD Sidekick It is the accompaniment of the gamer monitor GIGABYTE M32U and particularly it comes with the same options that one finds in other monitors GIGABYTE/AORUS.

I have used the monitor for a long time and this model has had several firmware updates.

For the longest time it has been a headache to have mandatory OSD Sidekick installed to flash the firmware. Luckily and I hope that GIGABYTE continues with this philosophy, the last update (F10) returns to what should be a firmware update:

-Independent update software without the need for other software (OSD Sidekick).

While I know the KVM option exists, it's not something I use in real life, but I've seen it in action. Without the need for software, one can control two different systems, on the same monitor, with the same keyboard/mouse, using the monitor's internal KVM.

Final opinion – 32” UHD with 144 hertz has been a total change with the M32U

Previously used a monitor ACER Predator de 27", UHD of 144 hertz. He was very good in his time and was one of the only options of 2019 with similar characteristics and has a G-Sync module, But times have changed.

Let's talk about size first… 32 inches. Unlike the old Predator monitor that I used for daily use, 27 "was chico and I can see the difference in richness that exists in game textures on a 32” screen with resolution UHD (3840 × 2160 pixels). That was a big change, but whoever is interested in the M32U, it is mandatory to have a desk with sufficient depth.

Another difference that can be seen with the naked eye, is the advancement of UHD panels that have entered the market in recent years. The GIGABYTE monitor has a better color reproduction than the PREDATOR monitor I was using. He will not be the champion in this field, but it is a pretty good option for a gamer.

Remember as it is a 4K UHD monitor, one should consider having a sufficiently strong video card and system. powerful for allow high FPS corresponding to the refresh rate. For example, a Radeon RX 6800 XT o NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 or a better option.

In terms of productivity (creating video content) the monitor is acceptable, but not up to the standard of what a demanding professional is likely to require. For gamer themes, the monitor complies and leaves a very good impression.

It will be difficult to find a gaming monitor to replace the GIGABYTE M32U in this category of 32" UHD with these characteristics and we hope that, over time, this model will be more accessible to the public, since it has a cost of 1000 US dollars in Peru.
