NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti – Technical Section / Specifications
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics card uses the new Ada Lovelace architecture and brings the improvements seen from its bigger brothers, the GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090. The biggest change aside from rasterization improvements is a better RT core, as well as the inclusion of new technologies exclusive to GeForce RTX 40 graphics cards, such as DLSS Frame Generation, which is part of DLSS3.
In terms of specifications, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti offers 7680 CUDA cores (21% less than the RTX 4080) and 40 FP32 Shadow-TFLOPS, 240 fourth-generation tensor cores with 641 Tensor T-FLOPS used for artificial intelligence inference and DLSS .
In addition, it has 60 third-generation RT Cores capable of real-time ray tracing, with a power of 93 RT-TFLOPS.
As for VRAM, the RTX 4070 Ti features 12GB of GDDR6X memory and various innovations discussed in our previous reviews.
During CES 2023, NVIDIA announced more news, announcing the faster adoption of DLSS3 (Frame Generation) a new technology that increases FPS above that seen with DLSS2 (Super Resolution). One of the main changes is that DLSS 3 can render entire frames instead of just pixels. According to the company, it works with an optical flow accelerator, game motion vectors, an AI frame-generating convolutional autoencoder, and a super-low latency pipeline using Reflex.
Besides, the complete portfolio of technologies and programs that benefit from hardware acceleration and the RTX ecosystem are a natural part of GeForce RTX 40 video cards.
New manufacturing process and more details – ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC
The new manufacturing process used with the new Ada Lovelace architecture is TSMC 4nm and the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti features 35.8 billion transistors. Unlike the GeForce RTX 4080 and 4090, the 4070 Ti does not have a reference model directly from NVIDIA (Founders Edition) so the graphics cards will come directly from their partners.
The model used for today's review is the ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC and it comes slightly overclocked out of the box. The 12VHPWR to traditional 8-pin PCIe adapter requires two 8-pin PCIe power connectors to power the video card. Some models offer up to three connectors for a more aggressive overclock and/or have a higher power supply for the video card.
NVIDIA recommends a 700W power supply or a power cable with a 300W PCIe Gen 5 rating.
The ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC features three heatsink fans.

Synthetic and gaming benchmarks (1080p, 1440p, 2160p)
With the release and announcement of new generation video cards, we have to update our benchmark (once again). The best processor that we have in our hands to carry out the necessary tests is the processor Intel Core i9-13900K.
A statistic reminder...
Before detailing our configuration system, let's refresh a little what they are AVG FPS y 1% LOW.
AVG FPS (Average FPS): As the name says, it is the average number of frames per second within a specific sequence. It is the most used measure, but it does not detail the whole story, since there are FPS drops.
1%LOW: Within an entire frames per second dataset, the 1% LOW is the value equal to the lowest 1% within the frames dataset (of the specific sequence ordered ascending). In simpler terms, it is the frame where you see the FPS drop that exists within a specific sequence.
Also, we suggest you read any additional feedback about the gaming experience (jerks) that may or may not have existed during testing.
Benchmarks (GPU Benchmarks – Raster – 2022)
Our revamped test bed features the best processor we have in our inventory, the Intel Core i9-13900K. We use this processor, since it is the one that will generate the least bottleneck to the GPUs tested in scenarios where the limiter may be the CPU.
The focus is aimed at achieving 100% in the performance of the video card, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (ASUS TUF OC).
Also, we've upgraded to Windows 11, but we've VBS disabled (Virtualization-Based Security), because in the middle of our tests, we noticed that it took considerable performance away in certain scenarios or generated stuttering.

Final analysis – Correcting a launch that would have been disastrous
The moment that NVIDIA showed the theoretical performance of the 4080GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 12, it released red flags that, along with the price, forced NVIDIA to delay the launch of the now called NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. Another variable was the price, which days before the official announcement during the event at CES 2023, it had been decided that it would come with a reduction of 11.12% and a final price starting at 799 US dollars (MSRP USA).
These changes are important, both when analyzing the product, and also for the end user, who is experiencing the post-covid consequences and the effects of the Russia-Ukraine war, in the midst of a global recession.
Performance – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti vs the rest
At the time of publication, we don't have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 available, nor the RTX 4090. The former would have been nice to have in our new benchmarking database (I've switched to the Intel Core i9-13900K to eliminate benchmarking necks). bottle). However, with the time I've had available (Christmas and New Year's Eve has been quite busy) we've managed to benchmark several graphics cards using NVIDIA's Ampere architecture (RTX 30 series).
Now let's look at the performance of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti (slightly overclocked model, ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC) versus other models.
Let's be clear about one factor before and that is the MSRP of the video cards:
-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti: $799
-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti: $1199
-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080: $699
-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070: $499
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: $699
-NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB: $329
It should be remembered that unfortunately, for almost the entire life of GeForce RTX 30 video cards, most of these were at a much higher price due to shortages due to COVID and crypto mining.
Generally speaking, the closest we have to a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti is the RTX 3080 Ti, with an MSRP of $1199 (50.06% more expensive than a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti). The 2160p performance of the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 3080 Ti are similar, with the former being much more accessible to the general public.
It is curious to see that the performance of the RTX 4070 Ti in 1440p and 1080p is superior to the RTX 3080 Ti. Apparently, it scales to a lower resolution (something different that did not happen with Ampere RTX 30 video cards). The RTX 4070 Ti performs 7.75% and 9.16% more than the RTX 3080 Ti at 1440p and 1080p respectively.
The performance difference between the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 3080 is already beginning to be felt, offering 9.04%, 15.93%, and 15.68% more performance at 2160p, 1440p, and 1080p. We will see later the cost per FPS of these video cards, since the price of a conventional RTX 3080 is lower compared to the New price of the "GeForce RTX 4070 Ti".
A world of difference exists between the RTX 4070 Ti and the RTX 3070. We don't have the RTX 3070 Ti (never sampled) but it is a slightly overclocked 3070. The performance difference is an improvement of 47.95%, 52.93% and 46.77% between both cards.
For a direct comparison with the best of the Pascal architecture, the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 (a heavily overclocked 1080 Ti out of the box) returns for this comparison. There's a big difference between the two cards, plus the 1080 Ti didn't have Tensor or RT cores.
Cost per FPS – Another way of analysis
Another way to analyze a video card is by looking at its cost for each FPS it generates. Many see it as a way to support the price/benefit of a piece of hardware, in this case, the GPU. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti at $799 (US MSRP) offers pretty good value compared to the RTX 4080/4090.
1080p
cost per frame | U.S. $ |
EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Black | $3.18 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 | $3.25 |

1440p
cost per frame | U.S. $ |
EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Black | $4.44 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 | $4.47 |
ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC | $4.68 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 | $4.75 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | $7.57 |
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 | $8.46 |
2160p
cost per frame | U.S. $ |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 | $7.74 |
EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 Black | $7.80 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 | $7.99 |
ASUS GeForce RTX 4070 Ti TUF OC | $8.38 |
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti | $12.60 |
EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FTW3 | $14.53 |
The closest value card to the RTX 4070 Ti is the RTX 3080, but its performance is lower. The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, which was the flagship video card for gaming from NVIDIA with the RTX 30 series, it falls behind on the value proposition at all resolutions.
Final takeaway – NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti the “most affordable” Ada Lovelace card yet
While the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 is the undisputed king in the world of PC gaming, not everyone can access the Godzilla of this generation. While I haven't tested any RDNA3 cards so far (I don't have access to one) the RTX 4090 has no competition. The performance difference between the 4070 Ti and the 7900 XTX and XT is going to be interesting, but maybe I'll see it one day.
At the moment, the RTX 4070 Ti beats the flagship card Gaming from NVIDIA's previous generation, the RTX 3080 Ti and features improvements such as DLSS Frame Generation, as well as reduced power consumption. With no competition in sight in the $799 price segment, the RTX 4070 Ti convincing what the RTX 4080 couldn't. For users who are simply out of their hands with a priced card in this range, let's hope that NVIDIA will announce a GeForce RTX 4070/4060 soon, although we don't know how soon this will happen, since NVIDIA did not announce such cards during CES 2023.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is a suitable card for those who want to pay the extra premium, coming from graphics cards like the RTX 3070 or 3060 Ti, if the FPS they are currently getting is not up to expectations with new titles. 1440p is the ideal resolution for the new card, although 2160p isn't out of the question if one anticipates new titles adopting DLSS3 (Frame Generation) in the coming months.
