Leak: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 specifications revealed

Kopite7kimi, a leaker with a sterling reputation when it comes to NVIDIA hardware, has shared with the world the specifications of the next-generation graphics cards: the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080, based on the Blackwell architecture. While it’s always advisable to take such information with a grain of salt, Kopite7kimi has proven to be very accurate in the past, especially when it comes to upcoming launches.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090: 600W, 32GB VRAM

NVIDIA's top-of-the-line model would use the GB202-300 GPU and feature 21,760 CUDA cores. According to the leaker, this card would have a consumption of 600W (it has not yet been specified whether it is TGP or TBP).

TGP = Total Graphics Power (GPU consumption only)
TBP = Total Board Power (consumption of the entire video card)

According to the latest rumors about the new graphics cards, the NVIDIA Founders Edition would maintain a 2-slot design, although the cooling system could vary in this specific model.

Finally, the GeForce RTX 5090 is said to be equipped with 32GB of GDDR7 VRAM, operating on a 512-bit bus. One could speculate that NVIDIA intends to target this card not only at the most demanding gamers, but also at users interested in artificial intelligence applications (training).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080: Almost half the CUDA Cores of the RTX 5090

Unlike the RTX 5090, which features 170 SMs, the RTX 5080 comes with almost half that number, namely 84 SMs. This gives a total of 10,752 CUDA cores, and it uses the GB203-400 GPU with the Blackwell architecture. The card is said to be equipped with 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM and a 256-bit bus. Power consumption has increased compared to the previous generation, and while it hasn’t been specified whether it’s TGP or TBP, Kopite7kimi has mentioned that it will have a consumption of 400W, surpassing the 320W of the GeForce RTX 4080.

There are rumors that NVIDIA could launch these graphics cards this year, although there is also speculation that they could be presented as early as CES 2025. The announcement or launch seems to be delayed compared to previous years' launches, but it is only a matter of time before we see updates.
